Once, there was a huge erratic rock moved my ice from far North in prehistoric times. It is known as Wodanstein or Bonenjägerstein. (I cannot translate this) Wodan is the highest germanic god. The story goes that there have been sacrifices for Wodan in earlier days. The stone was blasted 1845. Translated from the sign plate by the city of Coesfeld, 1984. Some of these stones have special cultural history. Often, there are significant erratic stones, or cromlechs on exceptional places, that are shown here. Many are accompanied with saga and tales. As there are no written documents from the originating times, acquiring knowledge depends on local findings. Chemical analyses of the soil can shed light on cultural usage. Sometimes there are findings of prehistoric tools, i.e. flintstone knives.
